Labor for Flinders

Australia has the natural resources and the people to be a renewable energy superpower – creating jobs, cutting power bills at home and for businesses, and exporting new sources of energy to the world – while importantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The world’s climate emergency is Australia’s jobs opportunity.

We have a once in a generation opportunity for Australia to jump ahead of the pack – with Australian renewable energy, made by our workers and our technology, here at home.

But after eight years of Liberal and National party denial, chaos and division on energy, Australia is missing out.

2700 clean energy jobs have disappeared under Scott Morrison’s watch.

And the workers that have powered Australia for generations are getting left behind by a Government that won’t lift a finger for their rights at work, or their futures.

Labor is genuinely committed to net zero emissions by 2050, not like the Morrison Government which says it’s committed, but won’t do anything to make sure Australia achieves this target.

A commitment to net zero is the essential starting point of good climate policy. But if we want to achieve net zero in 2050, we can’t begin in 2049.

Decarbonisation of the global economy is the greatest economic transformation since the Industrial Revolution. The longer Australia waits to start, the harder it will be to take advantage of the opportunities.

Labor’s climate ambitions will be backed by costed policies to achieve that ambition.

Ambition matters. But policies to achieve that ambition matter even more, because targets are meaningless unless they are achieved.

The Coalition doesn’t have real ambition or real policy. An Albanese Labor Government will deliver both!

An Albanese Labor Government will create jobs, cut power prices, and reduce emissions:

  • We will upgrade Australia’s electricity grid to unlock new sources of energy – and the jobs and power savings that come with them.
  • We will make electric cars cheaper by slashing inefficient taxes.
  • We will support 10,000 apprenticeships in the new energy trades of the future.
  • We will cut bills and support the grid with community batteries for up to 100,000 solar households.
