Volunteer to help get Labor elected!
A step-by-step guide to how you can help:
- Display a Labor supplied campaign poster in your yard – at home or your business. This is an easy step to take, especially if you live on a busy street, so more people will see the poster.
- Hold a Fund-Raisier. Every election campaign needs financial support. Apart from just donating funds to the Labor campaign, you might like to have a fund-raising event at your home or business. Holding a bbq or lunch function at your place, which people can pay to attend, is always an enjoyable way to raise funds.
- Support Surbhi when she goes into the community to meet people. This is easy – just hand out Labor supplied leaflets, if you like you can wear a Labor T-shirt, chat to people who might ask questions and take notes of special requests.
- Make telephone research calls asking people how they feel about voting for Labor – training is provided. This is an interesting area of volunteer work and can be very helpful in the early days of the election.
- Mail box delivery of Labor leaflets. This entails a bit of walking, which is good for fitness and great for your candidate. Leaflets are provided and a distribution area allocated, chosen in agreement between you and the coordinator. A few streets, or houses, whatever you can manage – any help will be great!
- Pre-Polling Booths – usually runs for two weeks and booths are open from 8.00am to 6.00pm so you can imagine we need heaps of volunteers to hand out How-To-Vote cards over that period of time. This is a very important role – an hour or more or whatever you can manage can mean all the difference in getting Labor across the finish line.
- Election Day Polling Booth – This is the last leg and can be a very exciting day. Your time to help service these booths is crucial to your candidate. Again, an hour or whatever time you can give is very valuable to the campaign, and it can be fun! The camaraderie with your Labor mates creates a very exciting atmosphere – it is where our future is being decided!
- Being a Scrutineer – This is a very interesting role. You get to be in the control room where the votes are counted. Your role is to stand behind the person counting to make sure they do not miss anything – especially a vote for Labor! It can often be a long night but another very exciting part of watching our Democracy in action.
